Botox has been a popular choice to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, however many are seeking Botox alternatives because of the unpleasant, and sometimes serious side effects associated with Botox.
So what are those side effects? Every medical procedure has side effects, and Botox is certainly no different.
There are side effects of varying degrees associated with Botox, and some side effects are more common than others.
There's nothing more depressing than looking into the mirror and being greeted with new frown lines, crow's feet, or other lines.
It's not surprising so many rush to the aide of Botox to make them disappear.
Botox is injected into the facial muscle using a micro needle.
It relaxes the muscles and stops them from forming wrinkles and lines, which gives you a much more youthful appearance.
It's not a permanent treatment and will need to be repeated regularly.
And with more awareness of both the side effects of Botox and the fact that it is actual a protein that comes from a botulism toxin.
Some side effects are very common, in fact almost everyone gets at least one of the common side effects.
Common side effects include bruising that occurs in the area of the treatment, headache, droopy eyelids, nausea, and other flu like symptoms.
Many also suffer from rash and/or itching that develop after treatment, as well as fever, and difficulty or pain when swallowing.
Less common side effects occur 3% to 5% of the time, and there is no way of knowing who might develop them.
These side effects include muscle weakness, facial pain, and erythema, which is when the treatment area becomes red.
There are also some effects that are rare but never the less they still do occur.
One of those includes paralysis that spreads to the muscle in the area of the treatment.
This can actually lead to paralysis of the facial muscles that can become permanent.
Another problem that occurs, perhaps more than you might realize is the misplacement of the injection.
When the injection does not hit the targeted area permanent or temporary paralysis can occur.
And at the very least, you can find yourself dealing with a temporary case of palsy.
When Botox is used around the eye are there are other side effects that can occur.
These include dry eyes, sensitivity to light, watering eyes, upper eyelid drooping, facial swelling, inability to close the eyelid, inflammation of the cornea.
All of which are actually quite common, since the eye area is quite sensitive.
