How to Help Your Children Stop Nail Biting
Things You'll Need
Instructions
1Talk to your child regarding school, friends or situations that may have upset him. Stressful circumstances can lead to nail biting and require you to delve into certain areas of your child's life to help defuse the problem. Inquire gently, without scolding, to put your child at ease.
2
Discuss the nail biting with your youngster. Tell her you would rather she not chew on her fingernails. Encourage her to stop instead of reprimanding her.
3
Substitute a toy for the nail biting. Pick out a favorite toy your preschool child enjoys and tell him to play with the item whenever he feels like biting his nails. Or have him tell you when he feels like chewing so you can distract him by playing a game or helping you with chores.
4
Encourage your daughter to stop biting her nails by painting them with nail polish. Tell her how attractive her nails will stay if she does not bite them.
