How to Rid Your House of Bats
- 1). Wait for nightfall and watch for the bats to leave your home. Take note of where they are getting in and out of the house.
- 2). After all the bats have left, seal the opening from the inside or outside of the house so the bats cannot get in when they return.
- 3). Check for bats the next day, when it is light outside. If the bats have returned, wait for nightfall and repeat Steps 1 and 2 with any openings in the house you may have missed.
- 4). Remove a trapped bat from the house by closing all the doors in the room and opening a window. Wait for the bat to fly out. This may not occur until nightfall.
- 5). Wear thick work gloves to protect against bites, and catch a trapped bat in a large net. Take the net outside and gently place the bat on the ground, sliding the net off of him.
- 6). Check the attic for bats once a month. Examine the edges where the walls and ceiling meet and block off any holes. Keep the area clean and closed off to discourage bats from nesting there.
- 7). Call a professional if you cannot remove, or are afraid of, the bats. A professional can remove the bats without harming them.
