AFC and NFC Championship and Super Bowl XLVII Cocktail Menus

The road to the biggest football game of the year is always exciting. The field of four teams has been narrowed down to two and it will be the 49ers versus the Ravens in the big game.

As we look forward to Super Bowl XLVII on February 3, 2013, I have four drinks for each conference final team that fans can enjoy while cheering on their team. The drinks are as varied as the cities the teams hail from and there is something for everyone to enjoy.

I have also made a point of including a shooter for each team because a round of shots for each touchdown is always a fun way to watch the game.

One of the new drinks for this year celebrates the unprecedented rivalry between the teams' coaches, who happen to be brothers: Harbaugh Bloody Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens Cocktail Menu

Baltimore Ravens fans can toast their team with these inspired drinks. From the fun shooter to the esteemed brandy and whiskey drinks, this menu is interesting to explore.
  • Baltimore Bang (pictured) - This sour is very nice to sip through a quarter and the bourbon and apricot brandy mix is a taste that most anyone will get a kick out of.
  • Baltimore Bracer - For those who love a good sipping brandy, try this rendition with the simple addition of anisette (or absinthe) and an egg white for a comforting mouthfeel.

  • Purple Hooter Shot - This may be the best tasting shooter of this year's menus and is an easy mix of vodka, black raspberry, and lime.
  • Harbor Light - Here we have a cocktail that requires some practice and skill, but once successful it makes quite an impression. In pousse-cafe style, it layers Kahlua, triple sec, and Cognac and on top of that goes a touch of flaming rum.

San Francisco 49ers Cocktail Menu

The city of San Francisco has inspired many great cocktails over the years and its rich history only adds to the possibilities for cocktails. 49ers fans can cheer on their team with one or all of these great drinks.
  • Gold Mine (pictured) - This is a great looking and tasting cocktail made up of Scotch, Galliano, sherry, egg, and lemonade.
  • Cable Car - San Francisco is known for its cable cars and they inspired this Tony About-Ganim drink when he worked at the Starlight Room. It is a modern classic.

  • Earthquake Shooter - One of the more 'interesting' shooter, this one mixes Canadian whiskey, Pernod, and Plymouth Gin and is guaranteed to rock your world in one way or another.
  • Frisco Sour - A classic mix of whiskey, Benedictine, lemon and lime, here is a drink that has a universal appeal, especially when it has your favorite whiskey.

One last drink for the 49ers is a rather impressive mix of spiced rum, fruits, and beer: Kaepernick's Keg.

The Patriots have to be a great team because I have written more menus for them than any other football team and this year I decided to take the patriotic route. If you are interested in the cocktail picks from previous years, check out the links below and toast to a team you can have great pride in.
  • Broad Stripes and Bright Stars (pictured) - A Lucid Absinthe highball with blueberry vodka, a drizzle of raspberry liqueur, and ginger beer to round it off nicely.

  • Boston Cocktail - Gin, apricot brandy, and grenadine are combined in this classic cocktail that almost anyone will enjoy.
  • Patriot Shot - This layered shooter is very patriotic, showing off your true American spirit in layers of red, white, and blue.
  • American Collins - This gin drink is in keeping with the patriotic theme for the team and bing cherries and blueberries are in season, so you cannot go wrong.

New to the NFL drink menu line-up, I am happy to have the Atlanta Falcons on the roster. This menu ended up being filled with a bias toward whiskey cocktails and, of course, we could not toast a Georgia team with a peach thrown in here and there.
  • Rhett Butler (pictured) - A very simple cocktail rich in fruit flavors, this one features Southern Comfort and all of its charm.
  • Georgia on My Mind - This drink is so amazing that it won our bourbon cocktail contest and in it Judy Bronson shares a mix of Four Roses Bourbon, ginger liqueur, peach nectar, celery bitters, and basil. It is impressive to say the least.

  • Southern Joe Shooter - Two favorites from the South come together in one rather tasty shot. All you need is Jack Daniel's and Southern Comfort.
  • Black and Red - The last whiskey drink is a simple sipper made of Black Bush Irish Whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters.
