Gravesite Monuments
- A grave marker is generally the most affordable gravesite monument because it lies mostly flat on the ground of the burial site. This monument is made to display information like the name of the buried individual, dates of birth and death, and a small verse or phrase. The traditional material for a grave marker is granite, which is made available in several colors. Grave markers can also be purchased using marble or bronze materials for a slightly higher cost. For about $100 more, slanted grave markers are also an inexpensive choice; they are angled up from the ground for better viewing.
- Upright tombstones are some of the most common grave markers in cemeteries today. These gravestones are raised off of the burial site on a base of granite. With this style, the buyer again has a choice of the granite color and shape. Many people choose to have a rectangular tombstone, but the stone can also be shaped as a heart or cross. When buying upright monuments, couples also have the choice of a double tombstone, which would be displayed side by side over their burial site.
- Another creative option for the gravesite is a statue monument. The angel statue tombstone is a popular choice, but could cost thousands of dollars more than flat and upright markers. These monuments are usually the size of an upright tombstone, and will display the same amount of information as a normal marker. The angel statues, made from granite or marble, can either frame a marker or be placed at the base of one. Not all cemeteries allow statue monuments because of upkeep, so contact the place of burial before selecting this style.
- Memorial benches are placed on or near the burial site and can be made to hold a cremation urn. Benches are larger monuments and are one of the most expensive options for a gravesite. These monuments are most often made from granite or cement. A memorial bench can be personalized with information like names and dates, but might not be able to display as much information as flat and upright grave markers. Cremation benches are built with an added compartment for the urn to rest in, acting as a gravestone and burial site.
