How to Have People Download My Songs for an iPod
- 1). Convert your song files to the MP3 format using file converting software or a free website such as Zamzar.com, Online-Convert.com, or MediaConverter.org. Save the MP3 files to your computer.
- 2). Open your FTP client and connect to your Web server. Create a directory on the server by right-clicking and selecting "Create a Directory." Name the directory "songs." Upload the MP3 files to this directory on your website by dragging them from the local computer side of the FTP client to the live server side and dropping them on top of the directory name. Wait for them to upload.
- 3). Create a new "Downloads" page for your website or alter an old page to display the available songs to download. Add the following HTML code to create a link to download an MP3 song:
<a href="http://www.website.com/songs/song.mp3" target="_blank">Download Song</a>
Replace "website.com" with your website domain name. Replace "song.mp3" with the name of the MP3 file. - 4). Add an explanation to the page that once the user has downloaded the song, he can add it to his iTunes library by clicking on the "File" menu in iTunes and selecting "Add File to Library" option. He can then select the song file on his computer and click "OK" to import it into iTunes. He can then plug in his iPod to the computer and have the song added to his iPod.
