How to Customize a USB Hub
- 1). Open the Device Manager utility from the Control Panel. You can access the Control Panel from the Start menu. In Control Panel, click on "Device Manager" or click on "Hardware and Sound" and then click on "Device Manager" from the items listed.
- 2). Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" tree in Device Manager by clicking on the arrow next to that label. Here, you will see a list of all currently installed USB controllers and ports in your computer. Any problematic items will be indicated by a yellow exclamation mark.
- 3). Right-click on the "USB Root Hub" you want to customize, and then click on "Properties." Under the Driver tab, you can update or roll back the software driver. Under the Power Management tab, you can control that USB port's power settings.
- 4). Right-click on the "USB Root Hub" you want to restrict, and then click on "Disable" or "Uninstall" to limit access to that USB port. After you disable or uninstall the software drivers, that USB port will not be able to interact with devices until your computer is restarted.
