Many people have some sort of home disaster plan. During a flood, fire, or other emergency it's important to have supplies and a plan for your family so that you will be able to stay together, be safe, and have enough to get by. While these are priority to prepare for a disaster, there are some other things that you should also be concerned about when preparing for these types of situations.

One very overlooked area is dental work. If you get a toothache, it can ruin your week until you get to a dentist. During a disaster, you won't be able to get dental work. Stay on top of this so that these issues won't be something that you have to deal with.

Another is to be sure to keep in good shape. There is no way of ever knowing what you might have to do in a disaster. Being able to carry supplies and walking for miles could be likely at some point in time. Be sure you can get around and are in good shape.

Keep gas in the car on a regular basis. If there is every a city wide disaster, you know that cars will be lined up getting gas. Make it a habit of getting gas if you notice you are under half a tank just in case.

Make sure you are getting plenty of rest. It's important that you do have the endurance for any situation that comes up. While you will have adrenaline, you still need to be as rested as possible.

If you have supplies, make sure that you actually know how to use them. One failure that many do is trying to figure out how to use disaster supplies during the disaster which only adds extra stress.

Make sure your family, including your children, know your disaster plans. This is important in case you are not there.
