Located on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, Samosir Island lies in the middle of Lake Toba, an impressively large lake, roughly half the size of Rhode Island, created by a volcanic eruption 100,000 years ago. Samosir Island has become a popular tourist destination due to its breathtaking vistas, exotic history and relatively cheap prices. Most tourist resorts on the island are in the Tuk-Tuk region. - On the eastern tip of Tuk-Tuk, Hotel Silintong is beautifully landscaped with orchids throughout the building and a lily pond in the front. This hotel offers gorgeous views of the eastern shores of Lake Toba. Rooms are amply sized and come with their own terrace or balcony. A simple place with great location, Hotel Silintong does not have air conditioning or provide any of the resort-style amenities, such as a spa or fitness center. It boasts a restaurant and several eateries within the area.
