Ordering Online

• 1). Determine how many oysters are needed for the occasion. If you are starting a business, you will need to arrange a schedule for purchasing with a wholesaler.
  
  
• 2). Contact a Louisiana retailer or wholesaler listed online to determine the stock and variety of oysters. Some retailers and wholesalers sell alternate preparations of oysters, such as on the half shell or meat only.
  
  
• 3). Purchase the oysters online. Oysters can be purchased online through a retailer or wholesaler. Sometimes oysters can be purchased online and picked-up locally at the dock, depending on the retailer. Shipped oysters must be frozen and packed in dry ice, as they are highly perishable.
  
  

Ordering at the Dock

• 1). Search the Internet or local advertisements in the newspaper for a reputable dock seafood vendor. Alternatively, you can walk the docks and talk with the fishermen there to find an oyster vendor.
  
  
• 2). Choose the size and amount of oysters for purchasing. Consult the seafood vendor for preparation tips if you are unsure how to prepare the oysters.
  
  
• 3). Purchase the oysters and immediately take them home and store prior to cooking. If the oysters are not intended for immediate preparation, seal them in an airtight container and place them in the freezer to preserve freshness.
