How to Tie a Line for Catfish
- 1). Spool 15- to 20-pound test line on a medium-heavy or heavy action rod and reel.
- 2). Slide onto the end of the line a sliding sinker that is heavy enough to stay on the bottom. Attach a barrel swivel to the end of the fishing line with a Palomar knot (see Resources).
- 3). Tie an 18- to 24-inch leader to the other end of the swivel. The leader should be the same strength as the main fishing line. Tie a hook -- size 2/0 or larger -- to the end of the leader.
- 4). Put bait on the hook. Nightcrawlers are productive for channel catfish. If you are targeting flathead catfish, a live bullhead is a good choice.
