Guest Designer Carmi Cimicata - Step by Step Klik Necklace

14
At the recent CHA Mega show jewelry designer and friend Carmi Cimicata taught a workshop where she made a gorgeous necklace and pair of earrings using epoxy resin clay and products from John Bead on behalf of John Bead.

I was excited by the colors and the variety of finished pieces that can be achieved with this project plus I love that the pieces are interchangeable allowing for lots of versatility. I loved the pieces so much I asked Carmi to share the full tutorial with us.

And she agreed! Thanks Carmi!

Metal Complex has a new product line cleverly titled “Klik©.” You won't believe the new looks that can be created and then modified with interchangeable jewelry.

In this tutorial you will see how to add your own style and personality to blank bezel snaps, which can be filled with resin, epoxy, beads and much, much more.

Jewelry that is interchangeable is a very hot trend right now and this product and tutorial allow you to create unique and coordinated jewelry that is as trendy as it is personal.

1. Supplies

This necklace and earring set uses several types of specialty beads that can be found at John Bead - The Pip©,  Piggy©, Pony and Magatama beads from Preciosa.

2. Resin Clay

Use the manufacturers’ instructions to make up the resin clay.

Note - do not overfill bezels.  You'll need plenty of room to add the  Piggy© beads without the resin clay pushing over the top of the bezel.

3. Embellishing with Specialty Beads

There are several ways to fill the Klik© bezels.

Add Piggy© beads by beginning in the center, sinking them into the resin clay almost half way, and spiraling them outward toward the outer rim of the bezel.

For a closed and full flower effect you’ll be want to press all your Piggy©beads inwards toward the center.

Give a final press on each bezel to make sure everything is embedded into the clay nice and evenly.

You can achieve a more open flower by placing your Piggy© beads so that they lean outwards toward the edge of the bezel.

Note: This would also use fewer beads.

The Pip© beads can be used as edge additions and for the middle of the flower. They give a lovely bit of contrast and depth to the flower.

The resin clay is air curing and permanent - no oven needed.

Clean away any fingerprints you may have gotten on the Klik© components with an alcohol swab or pad before setting them aside to cure overnight.

4. Adding to the Bezel

Add some beads with jump rings to bottom of the Klik© necklace component.

It is best to only add to the bottom half or the top beads will cover the flower when the necklace is worn.

The longer beads are called Magatama and they look gorgeous dangled from the bottom of the bezel.
