Why Businesses Should Consider Spending Csr Money On Education

3
Education is the only way to create a better future for our country. Quality education India is the need of the hour and the priority that everyone must focus their attention on. While the education sector is largely dependent on the Government and NGOs, it is definitely in need of some business support wherein the funds can help in creating an educational reform in India. The importance of education can never be unnoticed in any nation. An educated country goes a long way in turning into a developed and successful force and therefore, each Government focuses largely on the education sector.

Major Problems Faced in Educational Development:

Funds - With Government and NGOs, the problem of funds and expertise always arises. The Government does not have enough funds to start new schools or impact education of better quality in current schools as well. The Maharashtra Government has proposed to spend 2.21% of the states domestic product on schools and education in 2014 (accounting to about Rs. 33, 952 crore), but 80% of the money will go in salaries and pensions of the teachers and the other staff in schools. This means that only Rs. 6,790 crore is left to build new schools, improve facilities like science labs, toilets, sports infrastructure, etc. in current 100,000 schools run by the state Government.

Training Most Government and NGO organisations are not trained enough to carry out the vital responsibility of teaching the future geniuses of India. Quality education India has taken a back seat since the focus has shifted from imparting values and good quality teaching to only completing syllabus and making all students reach the next standard of schools.

Technology While most corporations carry their daily activities in an air conditioned office in top-notch locations of all cities, schools are still struggling for even basic needs like fans or computers which can help the students to be prepared for the future. In most rural areas, importance of education is side-lined since people dont have the exposure to be connected with the world and see how far technology has come.

How Businesses can Extend Support:

There are 155 listed companies in Maharashtra that match the criteria for CSR support with a combined net profit of Rs. 1.83 trillion. If these companies set aside Rs. 3,665 crore for CSR, the education system in the state will receive a huge uplift.

Since most employees of large corporations are highly educated, they can set-up simple training sessions for teachers in small cities so that they are able to improve ways of teaching and use innovative methods to impart education.

Most IT companies in the state have immense knowledge in software development and if they can provide special software support for schools, each school will be able to maintain records in an organised manner and the overall teaching experience will be thoroughly enhanced.

If businesses come forward to improve the current state of education in India, we will soon be one of the most powerful forces in the world and we can proudly say that we focus on education as a responsibility of each citizen.
