The DL650 is also known as a 650 V-Strom and is a motorcycle crossing over into both the sport and touring groups. Suzuki first made the 650 in 2004 and the bike is still being produced today. The 2011 DL650 comes in an optional version with an anti-lock braking system, which differs only in that it is slightly heavier than the regular version. - Both versions have a V-twin engine, which means the two cylinders are arranged at an angle (90 degrees in this case) to each other. They are four-stroke (the pistons take four strokes to complete an engine cycle), and are liquid-cooled.
The valves are controlled by a double overhead cam, which means the intake and exhaust valves have a camshaft directly controlling them. The lubricating system uses a wet sump.
The DL650 has 645 cubic centimeters of engine displacement (the volume of the cylinders swept by the pistons).
The DL650 has a bore and stroke of 3.2 by 2.5 inches and a compression ratio of 11.5 to one. The bore is the diameter of the engine cylinder opening and the stroke is the total distance the piston travels up and down. Compression ratio is the ratio of the volume between the piston and cylinder head before and after a compression stroke.
The bike has a fuel injection system, an electric start and a digital transistorized ignition. - The motorcycle has six-speed manual gears, and some have ABS. The bike has a chain final drive system, which means the engine power turns a chain which turns the rear wheel to produce forward momentum. The DL650 has disc brakes front and rear, with the front being a dual disc. A disc brake is a metal disc fixed to the wheel. When force is applied through the piston calipers, pads push on the disc and cause friction, slowing the wheel.
The suspension in front is a telescopic fork and the rear suspension is a link-type. - he DL650 is 90.2 inches long and 33.1 inches high with a ground clearance of 6.5 inches and a seat height of 32.3 inches. The wheelbase is 61.2 inches.
The tires are tubeless. The front tire size is 110/80 R19 M/C 59H and the rear tire size is 150/70 R17 M/C 69H.
The ABS version weighs 485 pounds, and the regular version 478 pounds. The fuel tank holds 5.8 gallons of fuel.
