How to Make an Entry in DNS
- 1). Log in to the DNS server.
- 2). Click "Start," "Administrative Tools" and click "DNS" to open the DNS management console.
- 3). Expand the "Forward Lookup Zones" folder in the console tree.
- 4). Right-click the domain in which you want to create a DNS entry. Choose among the following records you want to create:
"A" or host record - the "A" record maps a web server name to an IP address.
CNAME (canonical name) - the CNAME is the "A" record's alias. For example, a server's name is server1.mydoimain.com, you can specify its alias in the CNAME record as www.mydomain.com
PTR (pointer) record - the pointer record is the reverse of the "A" record. It maps an IP address to the web server name.
MX (Mail eXchange) record - identifies the mail server in the domain that processes emails. There can be several MX records that correspond to the mail servers in the network.
NS (name server) record - it identifies the name of the DNS server in the domain. - 5). Close the DNS console after you've created a record in the DNS.
