How to Install a Linksys Router With a Bridged Modem & Static IP
- 1). Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back of the Internet connection device, such as a cable or DSL modem.
- 2). Power on the Internet connection device and wait approximately two minutes for the signal to synchronize.
- 3). Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the "Internet" port on the back of the router.
- 4). Power on the router. Wait approximately 30 seconds for the router to initialize.
- 5). Open a Web browser, then type "192.168.1.1" without quotes into the address bar. Press "Enter."
- 6). Type "admin" for both the username and password for newer Linksys routers. Leave the username blank. Type "admin" for the password for older Linksys routers. Press "Enter."
- 7). Click to select "Static IP" under "Internet connection type."
- 8). Enter the static IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS information as provided by your Internet service provider, then click "Save Settings."
