How to Get a Job in Vehicle Repossession

12
    • 1). Ride around with a seasoned professional repossession man. This gives you the opportunity to get a feel for the job and the environment to see if this is a fit for you. Getting hands-on experience is the best way to learn.

    • 2). Evaluate the things involved with the job. You may have to confront an angry car owner who does not want his car repossessed. See if you have the personality and the ability to strive in a negative environment while working odd hours.

    • 3). Get the proper requirements. An auto repossession license is required in some states. Within your own state, call the attorney general's office or the secretary of state's office to determine if licensing is a requirement. All requirements vary from state to state. You also will need a commercial driver's license (CDL). Information about obtaining a CDL can be found on the Department of Transportation website (see Resources).

    • 4). Purchase the correct tools and equipment. A repossession person should purchase, lease or have access to a tow truck. A slim Jim will be needed to open car doors without the keys during odd hours.

    • 5). Call some repossession companies to see if they are hiring. Have business cards and a resume available. Begin to market yourself. Contact banks and collection agencies to see if they have any work.
