The members of a local community activist website has pledged this Thanksgiving to provide 40 families with a feast fit for a king.
The volunteers will prepare 40 dinners that will include: fully cooked turkeys, cranberries, macaroni salad, rolls, potato's and gravy, which will be more than enough to feed a family of eight.
The feast will arrive by home delivery the day before Thanksgiving, to each family preselected a recipients.
Recipient names are selected through contacts at the local SRS Office, the Crisis Center, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Meals on wheels, local churches and other private sources.
This will be the second year the organization has initiated what they have dubbed the "Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Family Program".
Among the recipients will be the elderly, sick, disaster displaced, and financially stricken.
Last year, one of the delivery drivers said "We received so many great comments.
People welcomed us into there homes and many shared stories with us about what their plans for Thanksgiving were before they knew we would be bringing them food.
One person said they were going to have hot dogs.
Another woman said she was planning on making hamburger helper.
Another family said they were just going to have cereal.
All the comments were very heartwarming.
I had to fight back the tears after visiting one elderly couple where I knew the husband was most likely spending his last Thanksgiving on this earth.
You could see tears in his eyes as we showed up at the door.
He said "you are like angels to help us like this.
This is a blessing for us.
" It was truly rewarding to see the smiles on their face as I left.
