How Does a Navy SEAL Spend a Workday?

    The Training

    • Navy Emblem

Either through movies or news programs, there are few people who are unfamiliar with the sight of Navy SEAL Trainees going through the rigors to prove themselves worthy of the title. The acronym for SEAL stands for Sea, Air and Land--the terrains where a SEAL is expected to operate no matter what. The training happens in extreme environments--raging heat, frigid cold and rough urban jungles. But when the training is done, the work, dedication, and mental and physical strength has only just begun to be tested.

    In the Field

    • When not out on missions, the SEALs are in constant training.
After completion of the BUDs training, (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training), SEALs continue to perfect their skills of disposing of mines both on the beach and in the sea; they continue to hone the skills necessary to gather intelligence as well as ensure they are ready at a moment's notice to engage in reconnaissance operations.
Other essential duties tackled each day include performing underwater demolitions and reconnaissance, and capturing the enemy whether the expedition take them in the air, on land or in the sea.

    An Atypical Day is Typical

    • It is difficult to pinpoint the specific duties and roles that will occupy a Navy SEAL on any given day. Clandestine missions, last minute orders and, above all, the need for secrecy makes their days anything but predictable.
