3.0 Accord Transmission Problems
- Some LX V-6 Honda Accords tend to experience premature failure of the automatic transmission. MSN Autos rates this problem as "Significant" for 1998 to 2002 Accords.
- The transmission problem especially affects the LX V-6, since the automatic is the standard gearbox on such a vehicle while being optional on the non-LX trims. Worthy of note is that the five-speed manual transmission is free from such an issue.
- Manufacturer Honda has acknowledged responsibility for faulty manufacturing of the automatic transmission by extending its warranty to 7 years or 100,000 miles. Outside of the warranty, however, it can cost up to $3,500 to install a remanufactured gearbox.
