There is a great assortment for diecast cars; you have NASCAR, Indy cars, Formula One, Production cars, Muscle cars, Sports cars, Dragster of all classes' even vintage cars and trucks.
So whatever it is that you like to collect it's out there.
There are also numbered collectors series available.
When you buy a diecast car it is already for you to place in a display case, no putting together or painting to do, so if you don't have enough time on your hands this is a great plus for you.
A diecast car always looks good because it does not depend on your ability to build it and paint it.
Most diecast cars come with its' own unit number and a certificate to ensure production and detail quality.
Some of the better diecast cars are considered a good investment over time, especially if they are limited production and hard to obtain.
If your intent is to buy the diecast for investment you should leave them in their original packaging and keep them in a safe place.
Don't forget that the diecast cars come in a verity of sizes, typical they come in scale sizes of 1:64 scales to 1:18 scale going form smallest to largest.
So you have lots to choose from being scale size or car style.
Now on the down side you can only have what is available, meaning what you see is what you get.
You can not really modify them to make them our own.
So if you like the car body style but not the paint job you can not modify it without the diecast losing its value, now saying that, you can modify the car if that's what you really want to do.
You could always add some pin striping or larger stripes by painting them on very carefully or better yet you could use pin striping tape, it will be easier to do and undo if it did not come out the way you wanted it to.
With plastic models you also have a great selection to choose from.
You have NASCAR, Indy Car, Formula One, Muscle cars, Hot Rods, Production cars and Trucks, new and old.
As far as scale sizes you can pretty much find the same scales as in diecast cars.
The difference between models and diecast is that the models come in pieces that you have to put together and paint, so the smaller the scale the more difficult the assembly.
This is where your talents are put to use, you can build a great looking model or not so great.
The secret is to be patient; you do not want to try and build the model in one sitting, follow the instructions and let the pieces dry before moving on.
That used to be my problem, once I started I wanted to keep going and finish it, end product was not something to show anyone.
Remember it is a hobby so take your time and enjoy.
Now with models you can build them as instructed or you can make them own with your personal touch.
You can create your own paint scheme making it unique.
Once upon a time all you had available to you for painting was paint and a brush, now you can nuts with an airbrush.
You can mask and paint all kinds of paint jobs once you master the airbrush.
The only real down side to models that I can see is that it may that you some time to produce some really great looking models, but once you get to that point it's all good and more enjoyable.
