How to Remove a Stuck Cork From Wine
- 1). Push any stuck cork pieces from the neck of the wine bottle into the bottle itself with the handle of a wooden spoon. Do this slowly to prevent wine from splashing on you.
- 2). Place an unbleached coffee filter or fine strainer over a glass or decanter and pour the wine through it to strain out the cork pieces. Take a test sip to make sure the wine is not spoiled.
- 3). Use a piece of medium-gauge wire or stiff string to fish out the cork if it is too big to push down into the bottle. Tie knots in the string or form the end of the wire into a narrow noose shape.
- 4). Slide the string or wire into the bottle and underneath the piece of cork. You can use a small screwdriver or pen to push the string or wire down wherever there is a space between the cork and bottle's neck.
- 5). Pull the string or wire up slowly once the knots or noose are underneath the cork, and the cork will come out with it.
- 6). Strain the wine as outlined in Step 2 if there are any broken pieces of cork in it.
