  Lacrosse was originated by the Cherokee Native Americans. European explorers witnessed the activity and began to play themselves. Today, the sport is popular with boys and girls, and some lacrosse enthusiasts may want to use the sport as their birthday party theme. Just think creatively and incorporate lacrosse into the food, favors, entertainment and decor of the party.
  
  

Entertainment

• If you are holding your party at a large outdoor locale, such as a park or field, have guests do some different warm-ups and then play a game of lacrosse. If the party is for a younger age group, invite parents to watch. Make sure to have plenty of water, sports drinks and sports bars around. Hire a professional or college lacrosse player to come and talk about the sport and give tips to guests. Learn about the history and rules, then set up a trivia game for guests to play. Give away prizes to the winners.

  Make sure to have plenty of water and refreshments for the guests if they are playing lacrosse. Also serve healthier snacks, such as vegetables and dip and fruit salad to give the athletes extra fuel. For dessert, serve cake that is in the shape of a lacrosse stick or that has the design of a lacrosse field on it.

  Give out lacrosse balls or a small book on lacrosse techniques. Or, make a goody bag filled with sports supplies such as athletic tape, water bottles, sunscreen, sweatbands and energy bars. You could also use some of these ideas for the prizes for the games.

  If part of your party will be indoors, hang posters of lacrosse teams or players around the room. Whether you are inside or out, you can put up balloons in the colors of the birthday girl's favorite lacrosse team. Use a lacrosse stick or lacrosse balls as the table centerpiece and depending on the age of the birthday girl, buy a lacrosse-inspired pinata.

  Set up a craft table for guests to decorate lacrosse sticks or make lucky charms to tie on the handle. Supply string, scissors, beads, charms, puff paint, stickers, glue and glitter. The finished crafts can serve as the party favors.
