Pool Set-Up

  Read all of the instructions that come with your inflatable pool thoroughly before beginning the set-up process. Each pool is made differently, depending on the brand or type. Choose a large, flat spot in your yard to set up the pool. Make sure the area is free of sticks, rocks and other sharp objects, so the bottom does not rip or tear. Once you have chosen a location, closely follow your inflatable pool's instructions. Do not skip steps.
  
  

Follow Local Code Requirements

• Contact your municipal office before installing your inflatable pool for code requirements. Building codes may require barriers such as fences around the pools to protect young children. Local law may be more restrictive than state law. Have a good understanding of the regulations, so you are not asked to remove your pool - and so you do not put any young children at risk.
  
  

Secure The Inflatable Pool

• Surround the pool with a fence that latches. Fencing, depending on where you live, may not be legally necessary but is recommended by both the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Inflatable pools typically have slanted or flexible sides, making it easy for children to quickly climb in without you seeing. A fence that goes all the way around the pool cuts drowning risk in half, says the AAP.
  
  

Supervise Time In The Pool

  Supervise children when they are in or anywhere around your inflatable pool. Do not rely on the fact that your child knows how to swim, or that the water is below their shoulders. They should not be left alone. Accidents happen quickly, and it does not take a lot of water for a drowning to occur. If your inflatable pool has a ladder, secure or remove it when the pool is not in use, so children do not invite themselves into the water when you are not around.
