How to Substitute an 8x8x2 Pan for an 8-Inch Round Cake
- 1). Preheat the oven to the desired temperature, following the instructions in a cookbook or on the cake package if using a mix.
- 2). Combine the ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir through with a wooden spoon or spatula.
- 3). Pour the cake mixture into an 8-by-8-by-2 square cake pan.
- 4). Bake the cake for 25 percent longer than usual because of the depth change in the pan. For example, if the directions say to bake the cake for 40 minutes, add 10 minutes to the total baking time.
- 5). Remove the cake pan from the oven using a heavy oven mitt. Allow it to rest for 15 minutes. If you want to frost the cake, allow it to cool to room temperature before applying the crumb layer.
