Motor Noise

• According to the Use and Care Manual for the WJSR4160G2WW model, you may commonly hear noise from the motor during the washing machine’s spin cycle. A humming noise often can be heard at the beginning of the spin cycle as the motor speeds or ramps up. The humming gradually intensifies at the height of the spin cycle before turning softer and eventually stopping altogether as the cycle ends.
  
  

Overloaded Washtub

• Avoid overloading the washtub of your GE washing machine. The more clothes that you place inside, the greater likelihood of the washer becoming out of balance during the spin cycle as the tub rotates at a high rate of speed. If the washing machine is out of balance, it will likely walk across the floor, hitting against walls and the flooring surface below. When this happens, you may hear the washer make thumping and knocking sounds until the spin cycle is over. Stop the washing machine, and remove some of the items to eliminate the noise.
  
  

Large, Unwieldy Items

• Bulky pieces, such as curtains, winter coats and quilts, can cause your GE washer to squeal and screech as the washtub struggles to spin larger and heavier items free of excess water. Even though you might fit bulky pieces of laundry into your washing machine, you’re probably better off taking heavier items to a laundromat or a dry cleaner with an industrial washing machine. Bulky items put more strain on residential machines and cause your washing machine and its parts to wear faster, aside from making more noise while the washer spins.
  
  

Uneven Floor

• The surface where you install your GE washing machine matters. If the flooring surface in your laundry room or basement is the least bit uneven, the floor will make the washer rattle and shake when it spins. Rather than tolerate a noisy washing machine, balance the washer by adjusting the leveling feet to correct inconsistencies in the flooring surface. Refer to the washer’s Care and Use Manual for leveling instructions.
