At 37 weeks my baby was still breech and I was sent to see a consultant who informed me that if the baby was still breech at 39 weeks I would have to have a section. This was something I did not want as I already have a 4 year old daughter and did not want to spend anymore time in hospital then necessary and also the trauma of a section. When I got home I phoned my midwife as I was very upset as this consultant had said there were no other options available to me and I asked my midwife what else I could do. she then referred me to another consultant who was prepared to turn the baby. I went to see him a couple of days later and he agreed to try and turn my baby. I was 38 weeks pregnant when I went to the hospital for the procedure to be carried out.

I was put on a monitor for around half an hour to make sure everything with the baby was ok and then he scanned me to confirm the baby was breech. Then he started to turn the baby he had to lift the bottom from out of my pelvis and it had engaged bottom down and then turn the baby round using massage techniques it was painful, but bearable. The knack is to try and relax as much as possible and use breathing exercises. The procedure worked and I was then scanned again and put back on the monitor to make sure the baby was not stressed the heartbeat was still the same as before the procedure which I was amazed at. I was fortunate and my baby did not turn again and I delivered a beautiful baby girl weighing 7lb 3oz naturally.

If anyone would like to have their baby turned and the consultant they are seeing is not prepared to do it talk to your midwife and ask her if there is an alternative consultant who would do it. I was so glad that I spoke to mine and very grateful to the consultant who did it.
