How to Ace Psychological Tests
- 1). Consider what the position requires of employees, before you even go in for an interview. You won't always know ahead of time if there will be a psychological test; it's best to be prepared. For example, if the position requires you to take a leadership role, your answers should reflect your ability to be a leader.
- 2). Consider what the interviewer wants to hear. Although you are supposed to answer honestly, you also should be basing your answers on what will best showcase your skills, especially if it is a verbal test.
- 3). Answer honestly. These tests, in part, are to determine if you would be a good match for a position. If you are a natural leader, you may not do well in a position requiring you to work under a lot of other people, or even to work entirely on your own. On the other hand, answering the questions on a psychology test honestly can be a great way to prove to potential employers that you are perfect for the position you are interviewing for.
- 4). If the psychological test is verbal, take the time after each question to offer examples that back up your answer. If you are asked about your ability to work as part of a team, follow up with a few times that you worked as part of a team, and played an important part in the finished project, whether it was a presentation or something else.
- 5). If the psychological test is written, as many department store tests are, double check your answers before submitting. There are often very similar questions asked more than once, to check for honesty and consistency. Make sure you keep track of your answers, so that these duplicate questions do not affect your results.
