How to Curve a Hockey Stick
- 1). Consider if your hockey stance is high or low to realize where the curve will be best suited. For taller stances, the curve should be closer to the toe, or the tip of the blade. For shorter stances, the curve should be closer to the heel, where the blade and shaft meet.
- 2). Heat the blade with the flame wearing oven mitts at all times. Continue applying heat until the blade is able to bend comfortably. A blowtorch provides sufficient heat, however may prove difficult to maneuver. Holding the stick over a lit stove is easier while still providing sufficient heat. A hairdryer is another option but it will take longer to reach the temperature needed to curve the stick. Maintain a safe distance from the heat source so as to not burn yourself or the stick.
- 3). Bend the stick according to your stance, as described in Step 1. Bend gently and slowly or you may crack or snap the blade. Avoid bending too much at once, which can result in an excessive curve that hinders rather than helps accuracy and control.
- 4). Apply more heat as needed to ensure continued ease of manipulation of the blade.
- 5). Apply hockey tape once the blade is curved to your satisfaction and cooled down. You should begin taping from the toe to the heel to further advance accuracy and control.
