Detect Internet Transfer Speed on Your Computer

• 1). Double-click on the Network Connection icon, located on your Windows System Tray (adjacent to the clock). The "Local Area Connection Status" window will open up. If the Network Connection icon is not located in the System Tray, click on the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel."
  
  
• 2). Click on "Network and Internet Connections" then click on "Network Connections."
  
  
• 3). Observe the Internet speed measured in megabits per second, under the "Connection" section.
  
  

Detect Internet Speed Online

• 1). Launch a Web browser and enter the Web address of an Internet speed testing site, such as Speedtest.net or AuditMyPC.com.
  
  
• 2). Click on the "Begin Test" button. Your IP address will display on the lower left section of the page.
  
  
• 3). Allow for the test setup to begin. The ping test will automatically begin and a visual speedometer displays, measuring megabits per second. The ping results will display on the left pane in milliseconds.
  
  
• 4). Allow for the download speed test to begin. The download speed results will display on the left pane in Mbps.
  
  
• 5). Allow for the upload Speed test to begin. The upload speed results will display on the left pane in Mbps.
  
  

Detect Latency Using Ping Test

• 1). Launch a Web browser and access a ping-testing website, such as Pingtest.net
  
  
• 2). Click on the "Begin Test" button. Allow for the site to locate the best server to execute the ping test for your network location.
  
  
• 3). Allow for the automatic ping test to commence. The percentage of Packet Loss will display on the left pane. Ping test results will also display on the left pane in milliseconds. The overall ping test results will give you a grade for Line of Quality.
