    • 1). Replace the Ford cold air intake with a performance aftermarket cold air intake of your choosing. This will allow more air, and cooler air, to flow into each engine cylinder, increasing combustion and horsepower. The installation is simply of matter of lifting the hood, removing the existing air filter, and installing the new air filter in its place. The air filter is located at the top of the engine bay, near the front of the vehicle on the passenger side.

    • 2). Replace the Ford headers with performance aftermarket headers of your choosing. This will allow hot air to exit the engine bay more freely, reducing back-pressure and increasing horsepower. The headers are the large pipes located on either side of the Mustang engine itself. This step is slightly more complicated, as removing the factory headers involves also temporarily removing any other engine components which are located on top of them. The headers will need to be disconnected from both the engine and the exhaust before being removed. This step is frequently performed in conjunction with Step 3.

    • 3). Replace the Ford exhaust with a performance aftermarket exhaust system of your choosing. The exhaust works in tandem with the headers to carry hot air out of the engine bay. Removing the factory exhaust involves getting underneath the vehicle and disconnecting the exhaust from the headers and from the Chassis itself. This is most easily done by lifting the vehicle with a hydraulic automotive lift or with a jack, jack stands, and tire chocks.

    • 4). Install a nitrous oxide injection system. Nitrous oxide is a combustible chemical compound that provides a temporary power boost when it enters the engine cylinders. An injection system allows you to inject nitrous oxide into the fuel line with the push of a button or the pull of a lever, where it then travels to the engine. This short term power boost is best suited for straight line racing and can be dangerous to both the driver and to the vehicle if used incorrectly. This step is not recommended for beginners.
