Mice Are Living in My Gas Stove
- The mouse living in your gas stove is likely a house mouse (Mus musculus). These mice reach between 3 and 7 inches in length and weigh about 1/2 oz. They are brown-gray with black eyes and large ears.
- House mice can thrive in a variety of conditions and are commonly found in homes and commercial buildings. House mice seek food, such as crumbs or spills, and shelter -- preferably a small place to hide, such as a gas stove.
- You have three options when deciding how to remove the mice that are living in your gas stove: baits, rodenticides and traps. Baits and rodenticides contain toxic chemicals and thus you may not be comfortable putting them in your gas stove. As an alternative, consider placing traps near the wall behind the gas stove and inside the gas stove (just make sure you don't turn on the gas stove with the trap inside). In addition, take steps to prevent mice from returning to your home. For example, seal all openings larger than 1/4 inch, install weather stripping around doors and windows, and make sure food is not accessible to mice.
