How to Disassemble an Asus G1

54
    • 1). Disconnect the Asus G1 laptop's power cord from the power source. Shut down the laptop and close the display, then flip the notebook over.

    • 2). Remove the computer's battery. The battery's outline can be seen at the very top of the underside of the unit, and there is a battery release latch just below it. Slide this latch to release the battery, then pull it out.

    • 3). Take out the screws at each of the two top corners of the laptop using a Phillips screwdriver. Turn the laptop back over and open up the display.

    • 4). Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the shield cover on the Asus G1 laptop. This shield cover lies above the top of the keyboard and directly below the bottom of the display. Wedge the tip of the flathead screwdriver under the edge of the shield and pry upward to remove it.

    • 5). Grab the top of the keyboard and lift upward to reveal the keyboard ribbon cable that runs from the back of the keyboard to the base of the Asus G1 laptop. The cable connects to a connector on the laptop's motherboard. Pull up on a side of the connector slightly and carefully, ensuring that you only bend the connector upward a few millimeters so as not to break it. Slide the keyboard cable ribbon out and remove the keyboard entirely.

    • 6). Find and remove the round concealing caps that extend around the bezel of the Asus' screen. The bezel is the black perimeter that extends around the outside of the display. Pop each cap off using the end of your flathead screwdriver to wedge under the caps.

    • 7). Remove the screws under the caps on the G1's display using your Phillips screwdriver.

    • 8). Pry the now-loose bezel off the monitor. Find the inverter board at the bottom of the exposed screen; this is a thin, green strip that has a cable and a connector on either of its ends. Pull up on the connectors and slide out the cables.

    • 9). Remove the two screws from the metal brackets on either side of the screen using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull off the brackets.

Pull the actual screen gently away from the Asus G1's back casing. This reveals the LCD ribbon cable, which extends from the back of the screen to a connector on the laptop's case. Remove the clear adhesive strip over this connector, then slide out the cable.
