How to Use Large Brads in Scrapbooking

17
    • 1). Make doorknobs on your scrapbook layout. Fold a piece of paper into thirds, lining up the outside edges of the paper with each other in the center. This creates the effect of a "doorway" that you can open to see the picture inside. Place the large brads where doorknobs would be in the design. Wrap colored string around the brads to hold the door closed if you want. For added visual interest, cut out colored circles a little larger than the brads to use as a background for the doorknobs.

    • 2). Attach flowers to a floral-themed layout, using brads as the flower centers. For example, to make daisies, cut out white circles that are notched around the edges to resemble petals. Attach these petals to the scrapbook layout with large yellow brads in the center.

    • 3). Make a spin dial using a large brad. For example, you could do a page entitled "The Many Moods of My Child." Cut out a large circle that fills most of the page. Use three or four pictures of your child depicting the different moods to put on the circle. Cut out a paper or thin cardboard arrow and attach it in the center of the circle with the large brad.

    • 4). Use decorative large brads on the corners of a frame for a dramatic effect with special pictures. Glue the frame onto the page first, or let the brads hold the framed picture on the paper.

    • 5). Hang charms or other embellishments attached to colored string onto large brads for visual interest. You can also run string in between two large brads. For example, you could hang a small tassel on a large brad on a graduation scrapbook layout.

    • 6). Spell out a word or a name with large brads that have letters on them. Using a set of alphabet brads, you can spell out a name, create a title for the scrapbook page or form a word such as "love" or "beach."
