Dona Deôla
About Dona Deôla:
Dona Deôla, a 24-hour bakery, has four shops in São Paulo and a relatively new history when compared to other food businesses in town.
However, the bakery opened in 1996 has a long background, founded as it was by the grandchildren of Dona Deolinda, a Portuguese immigrant who opened a bakery called Do Lar in the district of Pompéia in 1948.
Named for the matriarch, the first Dona Deôla has its fist store in the exact same spot where Do Lar once stood.
The bakery's four stores make a lot of products according to Dona Deolinda's recipes, including the rabanadas (a typical Portuguese Christmas treat similar to French toast), sold in vast quantities during the holiday season (order ahead).
Dona Deôla at Christmas:
Besides the rabanadas, Dona Deôla is also well-known for panettone. Every year the bakery comes up with some special versions of this Italian tradition - if you're not a purist, try one filled with 70% Callebaut, Sonho de Valsa, hazelnut or capuccino cream.
Dona Deôla at Night:
Like many other São Paulo bakeries, Dona Deôla has a breakfast and a lunch buffet (the latter, in kilo restaurant style.
However, as a 24-hour bakery, Dona Deôla also has a dinner buffet serving season specials every night at 6p. That will be perhaps a soup buffet with five types of soup, quiches, a cold cut and cheese buffet, hot and cold desserts.
Hours: :
All stores open 24 hours daily (closes at 6p on holidays - Dec.24, Dec.31; check for other holidays) and opens at 8a the following day.
