How to Change How Outlook Messages are Saved
- 1). Change where unsent messages are saved by opening Outlook and clicking on the "Tools" menu. Click "Options" and the "Options" dialog box will open. On the "Preferences" tab, click the "Email Options" button. The "Email Options" dialog box will open. Click the "Advanced Email Options" button. Under "Save Messages", go to the "Save Unsent Items" drop-down menu. Choose the folder you want to use to save messages you create but do not send.
- 2). Change how frequently unsent messages are automatically saved by opening Outlook and clicking on the "Tools" menu. Click "Options" and the "Options" dialog box will open. On the "Preferences" tab, click the "Email Options" button. The "Email Options" dialog box will open. Click the "Advanced Email Options" button. Under "Save Messages", enter a number in the "AutoSave Unsent Every [blank] Minutes" box.
- 3). Save replies along with the original message by opening Outlook and clicking on the "Tools" menu. Click "Options" and the "Options" dialog box will open. On the "Preferences" tab, click the "Email Options" button. The "Email Options" dialog box will open. Click the "Advanced Email Options" button. Under "Save Messages", put a check mark next to "In Folders Other Than the Inbox, Save Replies with Original Message".
- 4). Save forwarded messages by opening Outlook and clicking on the "Tools" menu. Click "Options" and the "Options" dialog box will open. On the "Preferences" tab, click the "Email Options" button. The "Email Options" dialog box will open. Click the "Advanced Email Options" button. Under "Save Messages", put a check mark next to "Save Forwarded Messages".
- 5). Click "OK" to save your changes, then click "OK" to close the "Email Options" box. Finally, click "OK" to close the "Options" box.
