Job Interview Success Techniques

7
In today's tough job marketplace how will you stand out in the crowd? After all the interviews have been conducted will you be the most memorable candidate that the company has seen? You can stand out and win that job.
Here are five job interview success techniques that you can use immediately to give you an edge and be the one to answer the question, "Can you start Monday?" Arrive ten to fifteen minutes early at the interview location and know in advance how to get there.
You would not believe how many people arrive very early which can show you are desperate or turn up late.
Aim for the middle ground a little early.
You now have one tick in your favour.
Dress for success in neat and clean attire.
For the gents a shirt, tie and suit is the normal choice, conservative colours and perhaps a bold but not outlandish tie.
For the ladies a matching pant suit or blouse and skirt, again be conservative.
Depending on the position you are applying for, dress for the role or better.
Be prepared and do some research on the company.
What product or services do they provide? Know key products and find out a little about the competition.
You are likely to be asked some questions and ignorance about your new employer will diminish any chance of winning the job.
Good sources are the employers website, Google and read the last annual report.
Now it is time for the interview.
This may be a single interviewer or a panel.
Most companies use the panel approach with 2 to 3 people.
You are likely to be asked two main types of interview questions, behavioural and technical.
The behavioural questions typically start with, "Tell me about a time you...
made a mistake or made savings or solved a problem".
This is now the time for you to shine and provides you with the opportunity to discuss how good a fit you are for this company.
These questions are designed to discover how you work and operate.
Practice with a partner or friend so you can answer easily and comfortably.
As for the technical questions these are specific to the role and again do your research and be prepared.
Remember a lack of preparation will not lead to any degree of success.
Lastly remember to smile and make eye contact.
When asked a question by the interviewer, respond directly to that person but also make eye contact with the other panel members.
And again, smile and before you leave the interview ask for the job.
