How to Obtain Information About a Criminal Case in California
- 1). Visit the Superior Court website for the county that is responsible for hearing the criminal case. If you need assistance finding the right court, use the "Find My Court" tool on the California Judicial Branch website (see Resources).
- 2). Select the "Online Services" option. Select the option to search for criminal case information. All Superior Court websites may not provide online access to criminal case information.
- 3). Enter the case number or the first and last name of the involved party. You can also enter his date of birth for more precise search results.
- 4). Click "Search" to locate and review information pertaining to the case.
- 1). Visit the Criminal Division of the Superior Court that is responsible for hearing the criminal case.
- 2). Advise the court clerk that you would like to obtain records for a specific case. Provide the clerk with case information, such as the first and last name of the parties involved and/or the case number.
- 3). Pay the required fee to obtain a copy of the case files. The exact fee for a copy of the files may vary by county.
Some California Superior Courts allow you to independently search for criminal case records via a microfiche system located within the court building.
