How to Attach a Gel Floodlight

63
    • 1). Check to see if your floodlight fixture has a gel frame holder. You will find this around the front edge of the fixture. If you find one, slide the gel frame out of the holder.

    • 2). Cut a square piece of gel material to fit the frame. Slide the cut piece into the frame and replace it in the frame holder. You now can project light that is the color of the gel.

    • 3). Attach gels to fixtures that do not have a gel frame holder, by cutting a piece of the gel material to be at least 3 inches wider than the fixture on all sides. Make this a square piece.

    • 4). Bend the gel. The material will not fold without cracking, so bend it until the gel material touches two sides of the fixture. Tape it in place. You can now project the same color light as the gel.

    • 5). Place a C-stand next to the lighting fixture. A C-stand allows you to adjust the height of the pole. A microphone stand makes an acceptable substitute. Raise the vertical pole until it is level with the top of your light fixture.

    • 6). Clamp the gel square to the stand. The gel should extend sideways in front of the lighting fixture. Any light projected from the fixture will pass through the gel and give you the stage effect you desire.
