How to Take Apart a Metal Frame Couch

3
    • 1). Consult any instructions that may have come with your couch. For example, if you bought your couch from a modular furniture manufacturer, your couch was designed to be dismantled -- consult the instructions that came with it, or if you cannot find them, check the manufacturer's website.

    • 2). Remove any slipcovers and cushions from the couch. If it isn't attached, take it off and put it somewhere else.

    • 3). Check your couch's frame for visible screws, nuts and bolts. Start by looking at where the arms meet the base of the frame -- they may attach there. If need be, flip your couch onto its back so that you can see the frame from underneath.

    • 4). Loosen whatever screws or nuts and bolts you can without completely removing them. By loosening them all first, you protect the structural integrity of the couch and ensure that no parts get stuck or jammed in place.

    • 5). Remove the screws, nuts and bolts that you loosened. Tuck all of the pieces into sealed plastic baggies and label them so that you can remember how to put the couch back together.
