How to Toast Tofu
- 1). Cut the tofu crosswise into four slices. Blot excess water from the slices with paper towels. This will help the tofu soak up more marinade.
- 2). Pour the marinade into a shallow bowl and submerge the slices of tofu into the marinade to soak for 30 minutes.
- 3). Remove the slices and drain on paper towels until they are no longer dripping wet and slightly moist on the surface.
- 4). Dredge the slices of tofu in flour to coat both sides. The flour helps the tofu to develop a browned crust.
- 5). Spray a skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium-high heat.
- 6). Add the tofu slices to the skillet in a single layer. Allow 2 inches of space on all sides of each slice. Cook the tofu in batches if your skillet is too small.
- 7). Toast the tofu for 2 to 3 minutes per side until it is golden brown.
- 8). Lift the tofu from the skillet and place on paper towels to cool slightly before serving as a sandwich filling (a great meat substitute) or sliced as a salad topping.
