Looking at porn is as easy as checking the weather online.
A Google search, a click and you are there.
It is easy to access porn, it is available from anywhere at anytime, and it is easy to look at pornography without anyone knowing - at school, at home, at work, anywhere.
Many people start looking at porn out of curiosity or even by accident - a link in an email, while visiting a friend, etc...
But once they start, they find stopping to be impossible.
This is not by choice.
They may feel they have lost control and can not stop, even if they want to.
If you or someone you know find that a porn habit is effecting your life in a detrimental way, it's time find a way to stop.
It may be taking time from other things you once enjoyed, it may interfere with work or a relationship or you may find that you are simply uncomfortable with what you are doing.
So how can you stop looking at porn? It is possible to change your behavior.
Here are some steps to take that can help.
1.
Motivation.
You need to be motivated to stop looking at porn, otherwise, you will continue to do so because logic will tell you that there is no reason to stop.
Make a list of all the reasons you can think of to stop.
Highlight the 3 most important reasons.
This will be your motivation and purpose.
Keep that list handy - for example, post on the wall next to your computer.
You will be looking at it a lot.

Awareness.
Addictive or compulsive behavior comes from a lack of awareness.
The behavior becomes an automatic response to a trigger.
Take note of when you are looking at porn.
Keep a journal and note down what was going on BEFORE you went onto the Internet to look for porn.
Do this for several days and note if you can recognize a pattern.
3.
Control.
When you feel compelled to do something that you feel bad about or do not like doing, it is a terrible feeling of no control.
You can get back in control.
This is also related to awareness.
Start to work on becoming aware of your feelings.
  • How do you feel when you start thinking about looking at pornography?
  • How do you feel while you are looking at the pornography?
  • How do you feel afterwards?
If you can, write these thoughts down in your journal as well.
Blocking Pornography Developing awareness takes discipline and commitment.
It can mean you have to face some thoughts and feelings you are not comfortable with.
And the temptation to look at porn, can be overwhelming.
Part of the problem many people struggle with is that unlike an addiction to alcohol or drugs, it is not realistic to keep the addict away from the source of the problem.
An alcoholic can stop visiting bars.
A porn addict can't usually avoid computers.
In addition to the above, installing a porn filter will greatly contribute to helping you to stop looking at porn by removing the temptation.
