How to Test a Multi-Line Fire Hose
- 1). Purchase a fire hose tester. Prices can range from just over $1,000 to more than $4,000. Purchase a tester that has multiple valve hookups, as well as one with mechanisms that ensure the prevention of a hose blowout or an uncontrollable hose caused by a high-pressure leak.
- 2). Connect the hose lines to the fire hose tester. When using a multi-line hose, you are more than likely using "wyes," or hose connectors that allow you to create multiple hose lines from one water supply. Be sure the wyes are connected as securely as you can make them before connecting the end points to the fire hose tester.
- 3). Operate the fire hose tester. Adjust pressures as necessary to see how the hoses and wyes perform at different water pressures. If you notice any leaks or if the hoses malfunction in any way or break, then it's time to get new fire hoses. Once your new hoses are purchased, repeat the fire hose testing process again with the new equipment.
