  Remind early elementary students that they are responsible for helping to prevent fires. After a lesson on fire prevention, invite students to create a list of rules to remember using an acronym. Line a bulletin board in black paper. Wrinkle red, yellow and orange tissue paper to represent fire. Staple the fire to the bulletin board edges and bottom. In large, capital letters, staple the words "PREVENT FIRES", "FIRE SAFETY" or "FIREFIGHTERS" vertically on the board. Remind students of the safety rules firefighters ask children to practice. Divide the class into groups and have them write one rule that begins with each letter of the bulletin board theme. Offer students examples such as P: Plug in appliances correctly and R: Roll up loose sleeves when cooking. Staple the rule next to the corresponding letter on the bulletin board.

  It is never too early to encourage children to dream about what they want to be when they grow up. Use a bulletin board to teach elementary students the career options involved in the firefighting profession. Line a bulletin board in white paper. Staple the words "Firefighting Careers" across the top. Print pictures of various professionals who work together to keep people safe from fires. Include fire service careers such as structural firefighting, wildland firefighting, emergency medical services team members, fire prevention specialists and speakers, emergency management experts and hazardous materials response teams. Label each picture with a caption describing the responsibility of each career.
  
  

Emergency

  The very nature of an emergency is that it happens when it is not expected. Teach elementary children to be prepared in case they face an emergency situation. Divide a bulletin board in half vertically. Line the left in white paper and the right in black paper. On the left, staple the words "Who Ya Gonna Call?" in black letters at the top of the board. Purchase a poster or design one yourself using construction paper depicting a child standing near a house fire with a phone in hand. For the right side of the board, cut very large white numbers "9-1-1". Staple a red fire truck made of construction paper driving to the rescue.
  
  

Truck

  A fire truck has many necessary components to help firefighters extinguish a fire. Tape a sheet of red bulletin board paper to a wall. Project an image of a fire truck onto the paper. Draw the outline of the truck onto the paper with black marker and cut out the truck. Staple the truck to a bulletin board lined in yellow paper. Use white note cards to label the parts of the fire truck diagram.
