How to Dispose of Used Tires in Gwinnett
- 1). Remove the tires from the rims of the wheels if they are not already off. Use two tire irons to pry one side of the (deflated) tire over the rim. Put one iron under the lip of the tire and pry it up onto the rim and hold it in place.
- 2). Place the second tire iron under the lip of the tire about 6 inches away from where you are holding the tire on the rim with the first one. Pry the tire over the rim with the second iron. Remove the first iron and place it 6 inches away from the second iron and continue prying the tire and moving the irons until the entire side is over the rim.
- 3). Push the rim out of the other side of the tire.
- 4). Dispose of the tires. You can take the tires yourself to one of the two area recycling centers: Coal Mountain Convenience & Recycling Center, 3560 Settingdown Road in Cumming, 770-781-2071; or Roswell Recycling Center, 1570 Maxwell Road in Alpharetta, 770-442-8822. All landfills and recycling centers in Georgia are privately owned. It costs an average of $3 for each tire you drop off at these recycling centers.
As an alternative, you can call your local tire shop. Most of them will take old tires for a small fee and dispose of them for you.
