Hello, I'm Matthew Harker, I'm a private chef from Boston, Massachusetts, and today I'm going to show you how to carve a cute watermelon. Today, I'm actually going to do a dinosaur so while it'll be cute it's a little bit ferocious and I think your kids are going to like it. The first step I've done here is I've taken the melon and using a long, sharp knife I've cut out a section to become the mouth. You want to remove that and set it aside. Now using a melon baller we're going to create the dinosaurs eyes. One on each side. So wherever you feel the placement of those should be, you just want to scoop out circular section. There we go. All right. Now using this piece of watermelon that I've removed I've cut out two crescent moon shapes which are going to be the eyebrows as well as two diamond shapes which are going to be the nostrils. Now that we have the eyes cut out we can use a small piece of the toothpick and stick it in to the back of the crescent moon shape. And then press that in to the melon. You want to be careful when you're working with this because of the shape of the mouth it does become delicate and you don't want to press down too hard or else you'll snap your melon. There's one eyebrow. And there is the other. Now depending how mad you want him to be you can have them facing downward or upward. I'm going to use the same technique with the toothpicks to put some nostrils in. And now if you want to use the flesh of the melon at this point you'd use the melon baller and scoop out all the inside. That way you can fill it back up with a fruit salad or just the melon itself. Once you've completed that you can go ahead and add the teeth. Now these are just some one and a half inch toothpicks and you can put them in kind of anywhere you'd like. These teeth don't have to be perfect it's not like he goes to the dentist. And once you have all the toothpicks in wherever you'd like them, you can fill it back up with the watermelon flesh or other fruits. And you'll have your cute watermelon.
