Facial Redness Treatments
- Blushing can sometimes be a psychological response to a situation that the person cannot always control. It could be a panic reaction to having to be in public, or the person could be having a reaction to any other stressful situation that results in uncontrollable blushing. With psychological blushing, it is first necessary to determine what situations cause the condition to occur, and then address whatever phobia is at the core of the problem. Simply avoiding a situation that brings on chronic blushing is not practical, so a medical professional will work with a person to establish what phobias they have that trigger the facial redness and then try to treat the phobias.
- With a facial redness problem such as rosacea, one approach is to cover the condition with make-up or other creams that will make it appear as though the problem has disappeared. Rosacea is a condition where blood rushes to the face when it is not needed, and rather than covering it up, it is necessary to treat the rosacea toward a permanent resolution.
A quick solution to an acute case of rosacea is the application of a cortisone-based cream to the affected area. This is a steroid that will help to dissipate the facial redness quickly. It should be noted that the use of a steroid cream must be limited and should only be used as a temporary solution.
Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, is a very popular treatment for rosacea that applies focused light to the affected area to clear the redness away on a permanent basis. According to a June 2003 study by Dr. K.A. Mark et al., after only one month of IPL treatment patients experienced a 30% decrease in the blood flow to the face that causes rosacea which makes IPL an effective rosacea treatment. - Facial redness could also be the result of an allergic reaction which is usually best treated by removing the source of the allergy. Talk with your doctor or dermatologist about the possible sources of an allergic reaction that results in uncontrolled blushing, and find out if there are any medications that may help you to better control the allergy.
