How to Unclog Hair From a Shower Drain
- 1). Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of baking soda down the shower drain and cover the drain itself with a glass baking dish for at least two hours. Leaving it overnight is recommended. This mixture should loosen the clog. Flush the shower drain with water after the time elapses to determine if the clog is still present.
- 2). Remove the drain by prying it out of place with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Use a flashlight to determine if there are any accessible clogs, such as balls of hair, that can be reached with a wire. If the clog can be seen, use the wire to pry it out of place and bring it to the surface.
- 3). Rub petroleum jelly around the edges of the plunger and place it around the shower drain. The petroleum jelly acts as an adhesive and ensures that the plunger will have maximum suction. Push down and pull up on the plunger for approximately 15 to 20 minutes to try and bring the clog up to the surface. If the clog does not come immediately to the surface, try to attach a wire to the clog and pull it out through the top of the drain.
