Homemade Pomegranate Gift Ideas
- Fill a bottle with your own pomegranate liqueur. Use a bottle that can be sealed well. One pomegranate can yield a little under 10 oz. of juice. Combine the juice from the pods of two or three pomegranates with lemon peel from half a lemon into the bottle, and add 1 1/2 cups of vodka. Seal the bottle tightly. Allow it to sit for two or three weeks. Stir occasionally. Boil 3/4 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Strain the pomegranate juice and squeeze the pulp to get all the juices. When the syrup is cool, add it to the juice. Leave the liqueur alone for about four more weeks. Filter the juice into the bottle you will be giving to family or friends. Tie a ribbon around the neck with a card or place in a decorative wine bag.
- An oatmeal pomegranate scrub is simple to make as a gift. Into a gift basket place one pomegranate, some uncooked oatmeal and honey. Attach a recipe for turning the ingredients into a face scrub. Consider adding some turbinado sugar to make a scrub for rougher skin. Pomegranates are antioxidant rich, which can make them beneficial for the skin.
- Season 3 or 4 cups of water with cinnamon sticks and a few whole cloves. Bring the mixture to a boil. Take the saucepan off the heat. Add whatever tea bags you like. Other fruit-flavored teas such as orange will pair nicely with the pomegranate. You will need about four or five tea bags. Allow them to steep for at least five minutes before removing the bags. Strain into a pitcher or punch bowl. Add sugar to taste. Stir in a cup of pomegranate juice. Then chill the mixture. Bottle the tea. Add a tag or label that lets the recipient know that the tea can be served with orange slices.
- Make your own pomegranate vinegar as a gift. It can be used as a base for a marinade or vinaigrette. For a cup of vinegar, cover a 1/2 cup or so of pomegranate seeds with a cup of white wine vinegar in a mason jar. Seal the jar tightly and place in a sunny place for at least eight days. Strain the vinegar into a bottle and seal tightly. The vinegar should last about six months.
