How to Connect Propane to a Portable Generator
- 1). Close the valve knob on the generator and your propane fuel tank, turning each clockwise until tight.
- 2). Place the smaller of the two connectors on the gas hose onto the threaded valve on the side or back of the propane generator. Rotate the connector clockwise with your fingers as far as it will turn, then tighten with pliers.
- 3). Fasten the other end of the hose to the valve on the propane tank, tightening with pliers.
- 4). Stir soap into a bucket filled with water to form suds. Dip the sponge in the suds.
- 5). Unscrew the knob on the propane tank as far as it will turn to open the gas valve.
- 6). Squeeze the soapy sponge over the gas line at the tank and generator connections to check for any evidence of a leak. If you see rapidly popping bubbles, hear a hissing sound or smell propane, close the knob on your tank and start over.
